49 ill in respiratory infection outbreaks
*
Centre for Health Protection

The Centre for Health Protection is investigating two upper respiratory infection outbreaks involving 49 people in a Wong Tai Sin nursery school and a Sham Shui Po elderly home.

Twenty-eight children in the nursery developed symptoms from June 3 to 20. A three-year-old boy was admitted to Queen Elizabeth Hospital and was discharged. Other children consulted general practitioners or out-patient clinics and are in stable condition.

Meanwhile, 19 residents and two staff of the elderly home developed symptoms June 13 to 21. Two were admitted to Caritas Medical Centre while the others consulted general practitioners or out-patient clinics. All are stable.

Centre staff have visited the institutions and provided health instructions.
