Gov't seeks consensus re: poultry trade

*

The Government is concerned about the live poultry trade and will continue to exchange views over the two compensation proposals - for closing down the business, and daily clearance of live chickens, the Food & Health Bureau says.

The bureau hoped the trade could study the Government's proposals in a sensible and pragmatic way to reach an early consensus.

The bureau said the two proposals aim to reduce Hong Kong's risk of an avian influenza outbreak.

The trade's demands to shelve the proposals and resume live chicken trading on July 2 were not in line with Hong Kong people's expectation of enhancing public health.
