Centre for Health Protection

The Centre for Health Protection is investigating three suspected food poisoning cases involving 17 people aged 16 to 45.

Eleven men aged 20 to 34 developed gastroenteritis symptoms, including abdominal pain, nausea, diarrhoea and fever after having dinner at a Southern District restaurant on June 14. They sought medical treatment from public hospitals and did not need to be hospitalised.

A man and a woman aged 27 developed similar gastroenteritis symptoms after having a meal at a Wan Chai restaurant on June 9, while three women and one man aged 16 to 45 came down with gastroenteritis symptoms after dining at the same restaurant on June 15.

They all sought medical treatment from private doctor and public hospital and no hospitalisation was required.

The Food & Environmental Hygiene Department has ordered the temporary closure of the Wan Chai restaurant for thorough cleaning and disinfection. The restaurant will remain closed until its immediate health hazards have been eliminated.
