Seven Castle Peak Hospital patients with respiratory illness symptoms have been transferred to Tuen Mun Hospital for antibiotic treatment. Pneumococcus antigen was found in the urine sample of three patients.

A total of 18 patients of a male long-stay ward of Castle Peak Hospital showed respiratory illness symptoms and seven were sent to Tuen Mun Hospital for treatment in isolation.

Their fevers have subsided and the seven are now in stable condition. Tests showed three patients' urine samples were positive for the Pneumococcus antigen. This bacteria commonly causes ear infections, pneumonia, sepsis, and meningitis.

Other test results are pending. 

Meanwhile, a 57-year-old patient from the same ward had a heart attack and was sent to Tuen Mun Hospital yesterday evening, where he was certified dead. The case has been referred to the coroner.
