8 ill with ciguatoxin poisoning

Centre for Health Protection

The Centre for Health Protection is investigating three suspected ciguatoxin poisoning cases involving eight people who fell ill after eating coral reef fish.

 

Two males and one female, aged two to 28, developed facial and limb numbness, weakness, vomiting and diahrroea after eating a coral reef fish at home on May 4. Two are in stable condition at Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital.

 

Another 34-yer-old man developed similar symptoms after consuming a coral reef fish at home on May 4. He is in now stable condition at the same hospital.

 

Meanwhile, two males and two females aged three to 50 developed symptoms after eating a coral reef fish in a restaurant on May 3. One is in stable condition at Alice Ho Miu Ling Nethersole Hospital.
