Help pledged for industrial accident victim's family
*

The Secretary for Labour & Welfare Matthew Cheung has expressed condolences to the family of the late Tang Siu-tong, the worker who died in a Cheung Sha Wan industrial accident.

He says the Social Welfare Department will do all it can to help the family, including burial arrangements for the deceased.

Mr Cheung said he was saddened to hear of the sudden deaths of Mr Tang - and his father, who collapsed and passed away after learning of his son's death yesterday.

Expressing concern about the dependants' livelihood and the well-being of Mr Tang's two young daughters, he said a clinical psychologist from the Social Welfare Department will continue to provide counseling services to the family. The case worker will follow up with the necessary services for the two children.

Meanwhile, the Labour Department is helping the dependants seek compensation under the Employees' Compensation Ordinance. The department is investigating the accident and notices have been served to the building site contractor and other parties involved to suspend the use of grab loaders for clearing building debris on the site.
