12 ill with food poisoning

Centre for Health Protection

The Centre for Health Protection is investigating an imported food poisoning case involving 12 people who came down with gastroenteritis symptoms 18 to 40 hours after dining in a Guilin restaurant on April 17.

The five men and seven women, aged 30 to 65, were in a tour group April 15 to 18. Three sought medical treatment from private doctors while four others went to hospitals. One was admitted to Tuen Mun Hospital and is stable.

People should observe good personal, food and environmental hygiene at all times to prevent food-borne diseases. Only patronise reputable and licensed restaurants and do not buy from illegal food hawkers. Avoid eating raw seafood.
