The community torch relay trial has been run smoothly with little disruption to the public, Secretary for Home Affairs Tsang Tak-sing says. The Government will analyse the test before forming a final plan for the May 2 Hong Kong leg of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Torch Relay.
Mr Tsang said today's trial caused only minor traffic congestion in some areas and thanked the public for their tolerance and co-operation.
He said the smooth running of the event proves the route is feasible and can be used for the May 2 relay. As there will be public examinations that day the Government will ensure the event will not affect candidates.
Expecting a large crowd to turn up to support the relay, Mr Tsang said the Government will be prepared for any situation. He encouraged the public to continue supporting the event.
