The Centre for Health Protection has advised a special childcare centre to suspend classes for one week due to a respiratory infection outbreak involving 11 students today.

The Caritas Lok Hing Child Care Centre in Tuen Mun, with 61 students requiring special care, reported 12 sick today. Eleven have come down with a fever since April 8 and other symptoms like a cough or sore throat.

Two four-year-old girls were admitted to Tuen Mun Hospital, one is in serious condition and the other is stable. Preliminary influenza tests are negative. Further tests are in progress.

The facility has been advised to suspend classes for a week for cleaning and disinfection.

The centre has also received two reports of influenza-like illness outbreaks involving two primary schools in Aberdeen and Siu Sai Wan affecting 10 people aged eight to 45. The patients are six males and four females. No hospitalisation was required.

The centre's staff have visited the institutions and provided health advice.

The centre urged the public to take precautionary measures against flu. For more information click here.
