International Olympic Committee Medical & Scientific Director Dr Patrick Schamasch has applauded Hong Kong's medical preparation for the Olympic Equestrian Events.

He started a two-day visit to Hong Kong today to learn more about the progress made in the medical services arrangements for the 2008 Olympic & Paralympic Equestrian Events.

He toured the Royal Park Hotel in Sha Tin, which will serve as the Olympic & Paralympic Village for athletes, and the Centre for Health Protection to see the Central Notification Office and Emergency Response Centre.

Meeting Director of Health and the events' Chief Medical Manager Dr PY Lam and Equestrian Company representatives, Dr Schamasch learned Hong Kong's preparedness plan for medical service arrangements, prevention and control of public health incidents, communication mechanisms and food safety.

He will visit Prince of Wales Hospital and the equine hospital in Sha Tin tomorrow.
