Two more Prince of Wales Hospital male medical ward patients have come down with influenza-like symptoms, bringing the total people affected in the outbreak to 11 since March 27.

The patients are 83 and 87 years old. They tested positive for influenza A.

Nine patients aged 63 to 91 and two staff members have come down with influenza-like symptoms since March 27. All have been isolated for treatment and their condition is stable. The two affected staff are on sick leave.

All other patients in the ward are under close surveillance. Admission and visits to the ward have been suspended and infection control measures bolstered with thorough cleaning and disinfection being conducted.

The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority and the Centre for Health Protection.

The influenza surveillance arrangement formed by the centre with private and public hospitals to monitor the trend of influenza-related complications among children received no report today. There have been 27 reports since the arrangement was implemented on March 13.
