Warning issued on frozen salted fish
*

The Centre for Food Safety has advised the public not to eat a certain batch of fresh frozen salted croaker due to possible contamination of the fish with Clostridium botulinum.

The affected product is "HC Fresh, Frozen Salted Croaker" with the item number #HC0500402. Its expiry date is August 2, 2009.

The US Food & Drug Administration said the affected product has been recalled. The bacterium can cause botulism. Consumers are warned not to eat the product even if it does not look or smell spoiled.

The centre has asked the trade to stop selling the product and will monitor the situation.
