Senior services: Secretary for Labour & Welfare Matthew Cheung chats with an elderly Upper Wong Tai Sin Estate resident who requires physiotherapy services. |
Secretary for Labour & Welfare Matthew Cheung has inspected retraining and elderly care services in Wong Tai Sin District.
Mr Cheung started today's visit by touring the Employees Retraining Board's Lok Fu Retraining Resource Centre in Lok Fu Shopping Centre.
He then visited the Sheng Kung Hui Welfare Council's Chuk Yuen Canon Martin District Elderly Community Centre and was briefed on its integrated homecare services like physiotherapy, occupational therapy, personal care, meal delivery and grocery purchase.
The secretary also visited two seniors in Upper Wong Tai Sin Estate who require physiotherapy and meal delivery services.
Before ending his visit Mr Cheung toured the workshop of a Community Investment & Inclusion Fund project launched in 2006 in San Po Kong. The workshop employs 10 middle-aged women who used to be in the garment industry to offer highly customised uniform-making services to restaurants, schools and boutiques.
"I am glad to note the workshop has not only established itself as a unique brand for uniforms through the effort of the workers, volunteers, and young people interested in the garment industry, but also serves as a valuable platform for all involved to give full play to their skill, experience and potential," Mr Cheung said.
