Mexican party visits equestrian venue
Site visit: Carlos Padilla Becerra (left) inspects the Equestrian Events venue with his Mexican Olympic Committee delegation members.

Members of a Mexican Olympic Committee delegation say they are happy with the venues and facilities for the Olympic Games Equestrian Events in Hong Kong, adding they have no undue concern about the weather.

During a two-day visit last week the delegation's head Carlos Padilla Becerra said Mexican riders are looking forward to the competition and hope to do well.

"The conditions will be the same for all competitors, and it is up to the riders to make the most of them," Mr Becerra said, adding he expects the events in Hong Kong will be a success.

Mexico has qualified for the jumping competition and will be sending a four-man team, along with its star woman rider Bernadette Pujols competing in dressage. Among the men is Antonio Chedrhui from Xalapa whom Mr Camacho said will find Hong Kong's weather conditions similar to his home city.

Impressive tour

During their visit delegation members inspected the competition venue in Sha Tin and also the Olympic Village Hotel and were impressed with the wide range of modern facilities.

They also appreciated the environmental efforts being made at the venue, such as the use of recycled material in the surface of the indoor training arena.

Equestrian Company officials and experts briefed them on all aspects of the competition, from the specialised arrangements for equine care and event details and scheduling, to accommodation and transport arrangements for team members.

The five-man delegation has been looking over the Olympic venues in Beijing, and returned to the capital to continue their inspection visit.
