The rents of all Housing Society domestic rental units will stay at the existing level for the next fiscal year, the society's Chairman Yeung Ka-sing says. The rents for February will be waived to celebrate the society's 60th anniversary.
This is the eleventh consecutive year since 1998 that the society has frozen the rents of 32,288 domestic units in its 20 rental estates, benefiting about 100,000 residents.
Mr Yeung said today, as most of the estates are over 20 years old, the society has to put in resources constantly to carry out rehabilitation and improvement works to enhance residents' living quality.
"Although we anticipate a deficit in the management of our estates in the coming year, the executive committee still decided to continue to freeze the rents to avoid adding financial burden to our residents," he added.
The society will review the rental levels again by the end of the year.
