Kwai Tsing landmark opens
*

A new Kwai Tsing landmark was unveiled today to boost excitement in the lead-up to the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

It features a clock tower and six sail screens depicting Tsing Yi's logistics and warehousing development and its transformation from a fishing village into a modern town. Hong Kong sportspeople are also portrayed on the sail screens.

Director of Home Affairs Pamela Tan said the landmark and the adjacent park will attract locals and tourists to the heart of Kwai Tsing.

It is part of the Kwai Tsing District Revitalisation Project being conducted by the Home Affairs Department and the Housing Society. The project will revitalise and add a green hue to the district, and make an ideal event venue.

Construction started in February and cost $7.9 million.
