Dangerous Christmas toys
Potential hazard: A light stick bought at a Tsuen Wan shop was found to cause a slight risk to consumers.

The Customs & Excise Department warns parents to exercise caution when buying toys this festive season.

Ninety-six spot checks were conducted on 12 products for safety tests by the Government Laboratory. Ten samples were found to be safe.

A light stick bought at a Tsuen Wan shop was found to have a slight risk to consumers. In a drop test its light-emitting diode wires were exposed, and parts fell off, posing a choking hazard to children. The retailer also failed to provide its name and address on the toy.

Meanwhile, a toy headband bought at a Mong Kok shop lacked identification markings as required by the Toys & Children's Products Safety Ordinance.
