Seaman poisoned by puffer fish

The Centre for Health Protection is investigating the suspected poisoning of a 54-year-old seaman who ate a puffer fish.

He became ill after consuming the fish today. He later fell unconscious and was admitted to Princess Margaret Hospital in critical condition.

Puffer fish contains tetrodotoxin, a toxin unaffected by boiling or cooking. People should avoid eating puffer fish.
