The Ministry of Health has notified the Centre for Health Protection of a confirmed avian influenza case involving a 52-year-old man in Jiangsu Province.

He developed fever on December 3 and was admitted to a hospital for treatment.

China's Centre for Diseases Control & Prevention conducted tests that showed the man had contracted the H5N1 strain of bird flu.

The patient's 24-year-old son was confirmed on December 2 to have been infected with H5N1.

The Centre for Health Protection is liaising closely with the ministry for more information on the case. Click here for preventive measures.
