Intangible heritage inventory to be compiled
*

Secretary for Home Affairs Tsang Tak-sing says the Government will consider commissioning an agency to conduct a city-wide survey and compile a comprehensive intangible cultural heritage inventory.

Mr Tsang today told lawmakers the University of Science & Technology has conducted a pilot study on Hong Kong's intangible cultural heritage.

The report says 34 out of the 78 intangible cultural heritage items listed by Guangdong have existed and developed in Hong Kong. The Government is examining the report and will consider commissioning an agency to compile a comprehensive inventory.

On the Hong Kong Memory Project Mr Tsang said the working group on the project has been liaising with libraries, museums and archives for the collection, preservation and presentation of documentaries in digitised format.

The web-based platform will be implemented in phases and the first test version will be available in 2010.
