Seaman poisoned by puffer fish

The Centre for Health Protection is investigating the suspected poisoning of a 52-year-old seaman who ate a puffer fish.

 

He developed numbness after consuming the fish on October 21 and was admitted to Kwong Wah Hospital. He is now stable. He caught the fish in Hong Kong waters.

 

Puffer fish contains tetrodotoxin, a toxin unaffected by boiling or cooking. People should avoid eating puffer fish.
