Heroes' return: Permanent Secretary for Home Affairs Carrie Yau welcomes home Hong Kong's medal-winning 2007 Special Olympics World Summer Games athletes.

Chief Executive Donald Tsang has commended the Hong Kong, China, Delegation to the 2007 Special Olympics World Summer Games in Shanghai for a record 154 medals in 10 sports.

 

They won 67 gold, 50 silver and 37 bronze medals.

 

Donald Tsang said: "Hong Kong citizens and I are thrilled by their achievements. All 106 Hong Kong athletes participating in the games have put in huge efforts in the arena. I am really proud of their determination and perseverance."

 

Welcoming the delegation at the airport today Permanent Secretary for Home Affairs Carrie Yau applauded the athletes for their outstanding performances.

 

The games are held every four years and are one of the major international sports events for athletes with intellectual disabilities. It was the first time the games were held in Asia.
