20 ill in respiratory infection outbreak
*
Centre for Health Protection

The Centre for Health Protection is investigating an upper respiratory tract infection outbreak involving 19 children and a staff member at a Causeway Bay boarding home.

Aged three months to 32 years, they developed fever, cough, a runny nose and sore throat from September 19 to October 4.

Sixteen sought medical attention from private doctors or public clinics, while three attended Ruttonjee Hospital's emergency department. None required hospitalisation. Eighteen have recovered and all are stable.

The centre has offered health instructions to the institution and will monitor the situation.

People should take preventive measures against respiratory tract infection by observing strict environmental and personal hygiene. For more information click here.
