Boy treated for enterovirus infection

*
Centre for Health Protection

The Centre for Health Protection has confirmed an enterovirus infection involving a three-year-old boy, bringing the year's total cases to 11.

He came down with fever, runny nose, an oral ulcer and a rash on September 23 and was admitted to a private hospital the next day. He has recovered and was discharged today.

He visited Macau September 14 to 16. His mother came down with similar symptoms yesterday. She consulted a private doctor and is now in stable condition.

Hong Kong saw 16 enterovirus infections last year, eight in 2005 and 35 in 2004. More details about the disease and its prevention can be found here, or call 2833 0111.
