Applications for the Beat Drugs Fund 2007-2008 Supplementary Funding Exercise will be accepted September 13 to November 8.

The two project themes for this year are "longitudinal study on psychotropic substance abusers in Hong Kong", and "pilot collaboration scheme on strengthening co-operation between medical practitioners and non-governmental organisations to provide early intervention for young substance abusers".

The Beat Drugs Fund Association will subsidise co-operation among NGOs, institutes, anti-drug bodies and private medical practitioners.

Apart from garnering the expertise of medical practitioners, the scheme will also widen the network for early identification and intervention at the community level. Abusers, particularly young and recreational users, will be given medical treatment or referred to counselling or other services.

The association will encourage partnerships between tertiary institutions and NGOs for submission of joint projects.
