Caution issued on blood glucose meter

*
Department of Health

The Department of Health warns consumers not to use a blood glucose meter made by Abbott Diabetes Care as its display may be faulty.

The appeal was made after the US Food & Drug Administration issued a global alert on the meter with the display screen marked "Abbott Optium Xceed". The display may not work properly or may appear blank if dropped on a hard surface, and users will be unable to view the blood glucose test results. For details click here.

A total of 857 affected devices have been sold in Hong Kong but none have been issued to hospitals. The department has not received any report of adverse events arising from this issue. The Hospital Authority, private hospitals, nursing homes and medical professional associations have been alerted.

Users should contact the local agent or supplier for replacement if the meter does not work properly. For enquiries call the local agent on 2806 4488.
