Good to eat: Secretary for Food & Health Dr York Chow (seventh left) and other guests officiate at the launch of the Food Safety Day 2007.

The Government is committed to upholding food safety through formulating and implementing effective control and regulatory measures, Secretary for Food & Health Dr York Chow says.

An active tripartite collaboration of the Government, the food trade and the public is essential in enhancing food safety, he added.

Officiating at the opening ceremony of the Food Safety Day 2007 today, Dr Chow said since its establishment in 2006, the Centre for Food Safety has spared no effort in communicating with the food trade and the consumers to listen to their views and suggestions on food safety.

The food trade should adhere to good manufacture practices, comply with the requirements of relevant laws and regulations and source foods that were safe for consumption, he added.

As for members of the public, they should observe good personal and food hygiene and purchase foods from reliable retailers.

The Food Safety Day 2007, co-organised by the centre and Radio Television Hong Kong, is part of the publicity drive to promote food safety among the community. It features a variety show, an exhibition and game booths.
