Centre for Health Protection

The Centre for Health Protection has confirmed four imported Dengue fever cases involving three men and a woman who visited the Philippines.

A 51-year-old Sha Tin man came down with fever, headache and a rash on August 9. He was admitted to Princess Margaret Hospital on August 12 and was discharged today. He travelled to the Philippines August 3 to 6. The centre is contacting his companions to check their health. His family members have no symptoms.

The other three cases involved members of a group visiting the Philippines July 23 to August 5. A 16-year-old Tsing Yi man came down with a headache, fever, rash and joint pain on August 6. He was admitted to a private hospital in Kowloon on August 12 and is now in stable condition.

A 30-year-old Sha Tin man came down with similar symptoms on August 9. He was admitted to Prince of Wales Hospital on August 14. He is now in stable condition.

A 34-year-old Southern District woman got Dengue fever symptoms on August 10. She was admitted to Queen Mary Hospital on August 14 and transferred to Princess Margaret Hospital. She is now in stable condition.

The centre has contacted the remaining 13 group members, with a 27-year-old woman and an 18-year-old man showing symptoms suggestive of Dengue fever. They were sent to Prince of Wales Hospital and a private hospital in Kowloon.

As of today there have been 25 cases of imported Dengue fever this year. Last year saw 31 cases, all imported.
