Broadcasting chief to step down

RTHK

Director of Broadcasting Chu Pui-hing has indicted his wish to the Government for an early retirement as recent media reports on his private gathering last Thursday has affected the Radio Television Hong Kong staff morale.

Mr Chu today told reporters that the private gathering did not involve any improper acceptance of advantages or entertainment, and none of the participants have any official dealings with RTHK.

He has explained the whole matter to his wife and family members. They have accepted his explanation and rendered their full support to him.

He said although some of the information in the media reports is inaccurate, any detailed clarification on his part will be of no value to RTHK or himself.

Mr Chu originally planned to retire in 10 months. Having regard to the overall interest of the organisation, he has expressed his wish to retire from the civil service as soon as possible.

Gratitude, apologies extended

He thanked colleagues for their support and trust and apologised for the inconvenience and embarrassment caused by the incident.

He said he has confidence in RTHK's future and believed RTHK staff will continue to provide quality public broadcasting service.

Deputy Director Gracie Foo respected Mr Chu's decision. She said she will lead the organisation to remain steadfast in providing public broadcasting service.
