Japanese poultry ban lifted

The Centre for Food Safety has resumed processing applications for importing poultry and poultry products from Japan's Miyazaki and Okayama prefectures.

Application processing was suspended after avian influenza outbreaks on poultry farms in the prefectures in January and February.

The centre lifted the restrictions for the rest of Japan in April while continuing to monitor the situation in Miyazaki and Okayama.

In view of the control measures taken by Japan and the fact that there are no other cases of avian influenza reported in the two prefectures, the centre decided to lift the ban with immediate effect.
