Bun fun: People joining the 2007 Bun Carnival will get these cool souvenirs.

The public will have the chance to climb the famous bun tower in Cheung Chau during the 2007 Bun Carnival on May 20, the Leisure & Cultural Services Department says.

The opportunity will come during the climbing event, which will run from noon to 6pm at Cheung Chau Pak Tai Temple Playground.

By making on-site applications for the bun tower climbing challenge, people can climb the 14-metre tower, which will be used for the Bun Scrambling Competition on May 24.

The challenge is divided into four groups - the Master Group (aged 35 or above), Adult Group (aged 18 to 34), Youth Group (aged below 18 and at least one metre tall), and Family Group (a team of two and each member must be at least one metre tall).

The challenge has six sessions, with each lasting an hour. Participants who reach the designated height in the shortest time will be the winners and receive souvenirs.

In addition, the Hong Kong Mountaineering Union will give climbing demonstrations, and there will also be traditional Chinese arts and crafts stalls.

People can enjoy variety shows like magic performances and traditional Chinese entertainment, and will have the chance to get special souvenirs featuring the buns.

Meanwhile, the Bun Scrambling Competition's final will be held at midnight on May 24 at the Cheung Chau Pak Tai Temple Playground soccer pitch.
