Football frolics: These youngsters showcase their soccer skills at the Inter-school Easy Sport Competition opening.

The Inter-school Easy Sport Competition opened today at Shek Kip Mei Park, attracting more than 5,100 students from 300 primary schools.

They competed in 13 sports, including badminton, basketball, cricket, rugby and volleyball.

Deputy Director of Leisure & Cultural Vincent Liu said Easy Sport is one of the subsidiary programmes of the School Sports Programme and has made remarkable progress.

The number of Easy Sport training courses has grown nine-fold from an initial 233 to 2,010 this year. Student attendance of such courses has risen from 5,419 to more than 50,000.

Certificates of appointment were presented at today's ceremony to 18 School Sports Ambassadors, outstanding local athletes who have pledged to promote sports in schools throughout the year.
