Bun scrambling contest
Bun fun: Applications to take part in the traditional Cheung Chau bun-scrambling contest will close on April 25.

Applications to take part in the traditional Cheung Chau bun-scrambling contest will will close April 25, the Leisure & Cultural Services Department says. The event will be held May 24, part of the 2007 Bun Carnival from May 12 to 25.

Physically fit adults are welcome to enter. If more than 100 people apply to participate in the training session, places will be allocated by ballot. Applicants who live, work or study on Cheung Chau will be given priority. Selected applicants must complete safety training sessions provided by the Mountaineering Union on May 12 and 13.

Shortlisted finalists will enter the final competition which begins at 11.30pm on May 24 and ends at about 12.30am. The competitor who gets the highest total score of buns from the specified areas on the bun tower within the time limit will be the winner. There will also be first and second runners-up.

Cheung Chau local organisations and athletes from neighbouring places are invited to take part in the bun scrambling invitation relay. Eight teams of three members will compete in the relay to be staged right after the bun scrambling contest. The team that grabs the designated buns on the tower in the shortest time will be the winner.
