Baby girl free of H9 virus
*
Centre for Health Protection

The nine-month-old girl recently hospitalised for influenza A (H9N2) has been found to be H9-free.

She was admitted to the United Christian Hospital on March 6 for fever and was discharged three days later. But she developed another episode of mild symptoms of upper respiratory tract infection March 17, and was admitted to Princess Margaret Hospital for observation. She has been diagnosed with respiratory syncytial virus infection and is in stable condition.

Her family members have tested negative for H9, and serology tests are pending.

The centre has contacted the 10 children who stayed in the same United Christian Hospital cubicle as the girl. Three of them and a healthcare worker have reported mild upper-respiratory infection symptoms. Specimens are being taken for tests.
