Preliminary testing of a Scaly-breasted Munia found in Sham Shui Po indicate it may have had H5 avian influenza, the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department said. More tests are underway.
Department staff collected the bird's carcass from Fu Cheong Estate on February 25 after a call from the Housing Department.
People are reminded to observe good personal hygiene, to avoid bird-flu infections. Avoid contact with wild birds and live poultry, and wash your hands thoroughly after coming into contact with them.
