Consumers are urged not to buy or use four health products and two proprietary Chinese medicines that contain potentially hazardous ingredients which can cause side effects, the Department of Health says.

The health products are Power 58 Extra, Platinum Power 58 Extra, Enhanix New Extra Men's Formula and Valentino. The two proprietary Chinese medicines are King Power Oral Solution and Stretch Up Capsules.

Health warning: Four health products and two proprietary Chinese medicines, including Enhanix New Extra Men's Formula, Power 58 Extra and King Power Oral Solution, contain potentially hazardous ingredients.

The products contain undeclared ingredients, which are analogues of sildenafil and vardenafil, western medicines used for treating erectile dysfunction. No report of adverse drug reactions linked to the consumption of the six products has been received so far.

Distributors of five of the products have been instructed to recall and surrender them to the department. The distributor of Valentino is still being sought.

Sildenafil and vardenafil must only be used under medical supervision. Products containing either of the ingredients are 3rd-Schedule Poisons under the Pharmacy & Poisons Ordinance.

Side effects include low blood pressure, headache, vomiting, dizziness, and transient vision disturbances. Sildenafil and vardenafil can interact with nitrates found in some prescription drugs, like nitroglycerin, and can lower blood pressure to dangerous levels.

People who have the products should stop using them immediately, and seek medical attention if they feel unwell. They can return the products to the distributors by calling their hotlines 2342 2765 (for Power 58 Extra, Platinum Power 58 Extra and Enhanix New Extra Men's Formula) or 27703770 (for King Power Oral Solution and Stretch Up Capsules).

The products can also be sent to the department's Pharmaceutical Service at 3/F, Public Health Laboratory Centre, 382 Nam Cheong Street, Kowloon during office hours.
