35 ill in gastroenteritis outbreak
*
Centre for Health Protection

The Centre for Health Protection is investigating a gastroenteritis outbreak involving 29 residents and six staff members in a Yuen Long elderly home.

Preliminary laboratory results showed two stool samples tested positive for Norovirus.

The 10 men and 25 women, aged 33 to 94, have developed symptoms including diarrhoea and vomiting since January 17.

Of them, 30 consulted general practitioners or a community geriatric assessment team. Four attended Tuen Mun Hospital's Emergency & Accident Department and all of them were admitted. All the affected are in stable condition.

The centre's staff visited the elderly home and offered health instructions to the staff concerning proper disinfection, proper disposal of vomit and faeces, as well as personal and food hygiene.
