Transport support proposal backed
*

Members of the Commission on Poverty have backed the proposal to provide transport support to help the needy living in remote areas to find work and to stay in employment.

At a meeting this afternoon, the commission further deliberated on the proposed features of the pilot Transport Support Scheme to address the relative lack of job opportunities in remote areas and to encourage work.

It also examined the recommendations from the Task Force on Children & Youth to strengthen support for children and families, including the implementation of the Comprehensive Child Development Service, which strengthened early identification of families at risk.

The meeting also noted the wide community support for the Government to set aside extra resources to support child development projects targeting disadvantaged children.

Members also supported the direction and proposed measures to facilitate the development of social enterprises.
