A driver has been jailed by Fanling Magistracy for importing meat without health certificates, the Centre for Food Safety says.

On November 17, Customs officers intercepted a lorry carrying 570kgs of fresh pork in 19 bags at Lok Ma Chau checkpoint. The driver failed to produce official documents for importing meat.

He was sentenced to four months jail for importing unmanifested cargo and two months for importing meat without health certificates. Both terms will be served concurrently.
