Caution issued on slimming products

Consumers are urged not to use three slimming products that contain sibutramine, a Western drug ingredient that can cause side effects, the Department of Health says.

The products are Jacaranda, Queenmer FAT LOSS and Li Da Dai Dai Hua Jiao Nang. The products contain sibutramine, an appetite suppressant that can cause increased blood pressure and heart rate, and should not be taken by people with heart disease.

Diet danger: Slimming products Jacaranda, Queenmer FAT LOSS and Li Da Dai Dai Hua Jiao Nang contain sibutramine, which can cause side effects.

Products containing sibutramine must be registered before sale and can only be sold on a doctor's prescription and under a pharmacist's supervision. The three concerned products are not registered in Hong Kong and the department has no record of them being imported for sale.

People using the products should stop immediately and seek medical attention if they feel unwell. They can dispose of the products by sending them to the department's Pharmaceutical Service on 3/F, Public Health Laboratory Centre, 382 Nam Cheong Street, Kowloon.
