Sha Tin illegal food factory shut down
*
Food & Environmental Hygiene Department

The Food & Environmental Hygiene Department has shut down an unlicensed food factory in Sha Tin, arresting one man and seizing about 1,000kg of chilled and frozen pork.

Officers raided the premises inside Jubilee Garden Market today.

It was also found that chilled pork at the food factory was chopped into pieces and sent to two fresh provision shops at 3 Wah Chi Path, Wong Tai Sin, and 14A Tong Shui Road, North Point. Both shops were found selling the pork as 'fresh', with 42kg and 14.6kg seized respectively.

The department may revoke the two fresh provision shop licences as the operators have breached the licensing condition that prohibits the sale of chilled meat as fresh. The operators have also breached the Food Business Regulation.

The department will closely monitor the sale of meat at the retail level and impose stringent enforcement to safeguard food safety and public health. People who have doubts about meat being sold at retail outlets should call the department's hotline 2868 0000.
