Centre for Health Protection

The Centre for Health Protection has confirmed an acute gastroenteritis outbreak in a Kennedy Town elderly home, involving 21 residents and four staff.

The 16 men and nine women, aged 23 to 103, have come down with diarrhoea and vomiting since November 30. Eleven sought treatment from a public hospital, with seven admitted, and six consulted private doctors. Their condition is stable.

Staff from the centre visited the elderly home and offered health advice. The elderly home has been reminded to watch for symptoms of acute gastroenteritis among residents and to report any suspected cases.

Winter is the peak season for viral gastroenteritis, so people should observe good hygiene practices. For more prevention tips click here or call the Central Health Education Hotline 2833 0111.
