Fresh meat shop found selling frozen beef

FEHD staff inspects beef

Spot check: A Food & Environmental Hygiene officer inspects beef at a Tin Shui Wai fresh provision shop.

A fresh provision shop in Tin Shing Chinese Market, Tin Shui Wai, may have its licence cancelled as it has been found selling defrosted beef as fresh produce, the Food & Environmental Hygiene Department says.

Department officers found the operator had breached the licensing condition after seizing 75kg of frozen beef from the shop in a blitz operation today. The operator has also violated the Food Business Regulation as the shop, with a licence permitting only the sale of fresh meat, was found selling frozen beef.

The department will monitor the sale of meat and take stringent enforcement action to safeguard food safety and public health. People who have doubts about the meat being sold at retail outlets should call the department's hotline 2868 0000.
