The Centre for Health Protection has confirmed an imported Dengue fever case involving a 37-year-old woman, bringing this year's total number of such cases to 25.
The woman, living in North Point, travelled to the Philippines from September 13 to 30. She came down with fever, headache, muscle pain and a rash on September 24 and was sent to Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital on September 30. She has now recovered and was discharged yesterday.
People should stay alert to the threat of Dengue fever and take precautionary measures to avoid mosquito breeding. Travellers should wear long-sleeved tops and trousers, use insect repellent and use mosquito screens or nets when rooms are not air-conditioned. Anyone feeling unwell after returning from their trip should seek medical advice as soon as possible and offer details of their travel to doctors.
