Hairy crab test results 'satisfactory'
*
Tina Mok
Good eating: The Food Safety Centre's Dr Tina Mok says test results on 24 hairy crab samples collected recently for chemical and microbiological analysis are satisfactory.

Test results on 24 hairy crab samples collected recently for chemical and microbiological analysis are satisfactory, Food Safety Centre Principal Medical Officer (Risk Management) Dr Tina Mok says. They were tested for parasites, heavy metals and drug residues.

Despite the satisfactory results, local traders should import hairy crabs with health certificates, Dr Mok said, adding the centre has liaised with the Customs & Excise Department to strengthen control measures against the importation of hairy crabs from dubious sources.

She advised people to buy crabs from reputable shops or restaurants. They should also maintain a balanced diet and avoid eating too many hairy crabs, particularly the cholesterol-rich roe. For more safety tips click here.
