The Centre for Health Protection has confirmed two suspected food poisoning reports, after 10 people felt sick after having a dinner buffet in a Tsim Sha Tsui hotel. The outbreak is believed to be bacterial.
The first case involved two men and a woman aged 21 to 60. They came down with abdominal pain, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and fever after taking a meal in the hotel's restaurant on September 22. They sought medical treatment from North District Hospital and none required hospitalisation.
In the second case, four men and three women aged 10 to 74 developed similar symptoms after having dinner in the same hotel on the same day. Two of them consulted private doctors. Two were admitted to Caritus Medical Centre and one to Kwong Wah Hospital. Their condition is stable.
The public, especially food handlers, are urged to observe good personal and environmental hygiene to prevent food-borne diseases. More tips are available here.
