Population by-census fieldwork ends
*
Census & Statistics Department

The 18-day fieldwork of the 2006 Population By-census has been successfully completed, with about 220,000 households involving 650,000 members submitting the  required information.

Among these households, 5,000 provided the information by completing electronic questionnaires. Households that census officers have not been able to contact must complete the questionnaires left with them and return them to the department by August 16.

The 2006 Population By-census telephone enquiry centre has answered more than 60,000 public enquiries since July 6. The telephone enquiry service 3582 3800 will continue operation until mid-September.

The department will proceed with the data-processing work. All data pertaining to individuals and individual households collected during the by-census operation will be treated in strict confidence and used solely for statistical purposes. All completed questionnaires will be destroyed within a year.
