The surveillance programme on the prevalence of Aedes albopictus - a mosquito vector for Dengue fever transmission - has found that 17 out of 20 areas surveyed tested positive for the Area Ovitrap Index in July.
Food & Environmental Hygiene Department Consultant (Community Medicine) Dr Ho Yuk-yin said only three of the ovitrap indices were over 10%. Tai Po North stood at 18.5%, Diamond Hill at 14% and Fanling at 11.8% while indices for the other 14 areas ranged from 1.9% to 7.8%.
While results of the remaining 18 areas are pending, Dr Ho alerted people to the likelihood of mosquito breeding during the current rainy period.
He also reminded those travelling aboard to see a doctor should they come down with a high fever, severe headache or muscle and joint pain. Click here for prevention tips.
