Steering Committee on Management of Public Swimming Pools inspects pools' facilities
In the swim: The steering committee on the management of public swimming pools inspects the facilities at Shing Mun Valley and receives a briefing on the operation of the water-quality monitoring system.

More than 77% of the swimmers surveyed are satisfied with the overall cleanliness of public swimming pools, up 5% over last year, the Leisure & Cultural Services Department says.

More than 1,600 swimmers participated in the June survey. Over 77% were satisfied or very satisfied with the pools' overall cleanliness. About 78% of the respondents felt satisfied or very satisfied with the hygiene condition of swimming pool facilities, up 6% over last year's findings.

Up to 65% of the respondents were satisfied or very satisfied with swimming pools' water quality, up 2% over last year's findings. The survey will continue in July and August.

With the approach of the peak swimming season, the department will step up publicity efforts to remind children and adults accompanying them to keep swimming pools clean.

The expert adviser of the steering committee on the management of public swimming pools Professor Yuen Kwok-yung urged the public not to swim if they are sick or have eaten too much.

"Parents should beware if their children are ill, especially when they are suffering from gastro-intestinal upsets. To swim after eating too much may cause them to vomit and lead to the risk of suffocation," he added.
