Imports of poultry and ostrich meat from South Africa have been suspended with immediate effect, the Centre for Food Safety says.

The decision was made following confirmation of an outbreak of avian influenza in an ostrich farm there. The centre is seeking further information on the case.

Hong Kong has imported 9.5 tonnes of frozen ostrich meat from the country since November.
